Sailor Town
Some child excitedly called ‘Mum! It smells like wee in there!’. Enjoy the sights and smells of an old fashioned Sailor Town. Part of the Museum of the Docklands.
This part of the museum feels like a theme park. By far the b st part of the museum in my opinion. Shops, boats, and music of olden times.
I come to a nearby health clinic for my yearly health checkup MOT and end up popping in here afterwards. I wonder if life was less complicated back then, and people’s mental health was better. By looking at the state of the place, probably not.
Free entrance as of 2023, and presumably for the next ten years because it looks like we’ll get a left wing government in next year's elections.
Update: 2026 we did, and it’s still free.

The place is home to an odd thing for London. Happy staff.
Finding Sailor Town within the museum is tricky through a labyrinth of galleries. I ended up having to ask a woman in period costume on the seconds floor.
The easiest way to navigate to Sailor town is to take the lift to third floor to the start of the recommended walking route. Then follow through past “London, Sugar & Slavery” exhibition until you reach a staircase (or mobility lift.)
Head downstairs and the entrance to Sailer Town is behind you.
